On pollution in eDonkey-like peer-to-peer file-sharing networks

چکیده
In this paper we propose an analytical model for file diffusion in a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing network based on biological epidemics. During the downloading process, the peer shares the downloaded parts of the file and, thus, contributes to distributing it in the network. This behavior is similar to the spreading of epidemic diseases which is a well researched subject in mathematical biology. With our model we investigate the dynamics of file diffusion focusing on the effects of pollution, e.g. malicious peers sharing corrupted version of the file.

Information Diffusion in eDonkey Filesharing Networks
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications have become highly popular in today’s Internet due to the spread of file sharing platforms such as KaZaa, eDonkey, and BitTorrent. P2P technologies have emerged from disruptive, grey-scale applications to developments of business-cases. In this paper we investigate the diffusion behavior in an eDonkey-like system. We use nonstationary simulation techniques to inv...
متن کاملA Measurement-Based Traffic Profile of the eDonkey Filesharing Service
Peer-to-peer file sharing applications have evolved to one of the major traffic sources in the Internet. In particular, the eDonkey file sharing system and its derivatives are causing high amounts of traffic volume in today’s networks. The eDonkey system is typically used for exchanging very large files like audio/video CDs or even DVD images. In this report we provide a measurement based traff...
متن کاملThe eDonkey File-Sharing Network
The eDonkey 2000 file-sharing network is one of the most successful peerto-peer file-sharing applications, especially in Germany. The network itself is a hybrid peer-to-peer network with client applications running on the end-system that are connected to a distributed network of dedicated servers. In this paper we describe the eDonkey protocol and measurement results on network/transport layer ...
متن کاملControlling P2P File-Sharing Networks' Traffic
Since the appearance of Peer-To-Peer (P2P) file-sharing networks some time ago, many Internet users have chosen this technology to share and search programs, videos, music, documents, etc. The total number of P2P file-sharing users has been increasing and decreasing in the last decade depending on the creation or end of some well known P2P file-sharing systems. P2P file-sharing networks traffic...
متن کاملEnabling Mobile Peer-to-Peer Networking
In this paper we present a P2P file-sharing architecture optimized for mobile networks. We discuss the applicability of current P2P techniques for resource access and mediation in the context of 2.5G/3G mobile networks. We investigate a mobile P2P architecture that is able to reconcile the decentralized operation of P2P file sharing with the interests of network operators, e. g. control and per...
